My Bio
Where do I start...
My name is Steven Dodd. I am 56 years old, a husband of 33 years, and a father of two kids. Well, they're not kids anymore, my son is 21 and my daughter is 30. I grew up in the outskirts of Jasper, Alabama where I lived until I enlisted in the US Navy. After four years I left the Navy with an honorable discharge and returned to my childhood home. Soon after I found myself working a 9 to 5 job and attending school full time a the University of Alabama Birmingham where I majored in Anthropology. So, I worked, went to school, got married, had kids, and so on.
I have always considered myself an artist. I even minored in art in college. I have never been good a drawing or painting, but my creativeness came in the form of crafts. I don't know exactly when or how my craftiness began, but my father was a carpenter and I basically grew up with a hammer and tools in my hand. By the time I was twelve I was helping my Dad on small carpentry projects. Working with my hands just came naturally and I began exploring with craftwork of all kinds, including needlework, leather work, bone and antler work, primitive weapons building, and many, many others. By the time I was a teenager I had explored every Craft I could image.
I have also spent my entire life writing fiction, mainly poetry and short stories. When I was in the fourth or fifth grade I had an English teacher who recognized my raw creative writing talent. She coached me in such a way that caused me to push the bounderies of my imagination. My passion for writing is still as strong now as ever before.
Now I still live in the outskirts of Jasper, Alabama in a town called Carbon Hill where I continue to work on crafts of all kinds and write regularly. But, I thought it was finally time to bring all these things together and put myself out there on the web. I hope that something that I can share here will help someone else bring there creative craftiness to life.
Video: The Artistic Journey
This video will give you a peek into some of the problems I faced about starting this website and about being involved in Arts and Crafts in general. Hope it helps. Again, I look forward to your feedback.
